What the Key Unlocks

In Nate Kid and the Flip Side Book 2, Kamp Krazy, (currently in production) Nate senses the Key’s presence even though he can’t see it:

“I feel the Key. I know it’s here—even though I can’t see it.”

And right there in the margin, we remind readers:

Did you know humans only see 0.0035% of the visible light spectrum? That means over 99% of what exists around us is invisible.

Mind. Blown.

Just like love. Or hope. Or faith.
The Key represents all that is real, even when unseen

A Tribute to a Hero

The character Moss, Nate’s quirky half plant, half animal guide through the Flip Side, also has a Key—but not the golden one.
His is silver.
Styled like a military dog tag.
And covered by his moss, of course.

What readers may not know is that this is a quiet tribute to Kent Moss, a real-life Navy officer and dear friend, whose belief in this work helped bring Living Libraries to life.
Kent passed away in 2018, but his memory—and mission—live on in every page, every laugh, every flipped book.

The silver Key is his. And through Moss, his ripple continues.

The LiLi Key doesn’t unlock books in the traditional sense.

It unlocks the child.

Their confidence. Their breath. Their agency. Their sense of play.
It unlocks a new posture—literally and figuratively.

It unlocks the belief that “I am a Living Library, and my story matters.”

And that, Kristi believes, is the greatest key of all.

🔑 Want to Hold a Key?

After reading The LiLi Key and participating in the Book Activation Sequence, kids who felt their own inner living books and choose to become Living Libraries receive their very own golden key or silver key—just like Nate and Moss.

It’s a real, tangible item that reminds them of their new found purpose in this world—to unlock books, everyday. But more importantly, it’s a reminder that they belong to something big—a ripple that reaches across classrooms, communities, and continents.

Because every child deserves to feel like their story unlocks something important.

And every book we write, every pose we practice, and every key we give out says the same thing:

✨ You matter. You belong. You are a Living Library. Always.
